What is the one thing someone can say to you that will send you into a fanatical loop where you just rant almost incoherently about whatever you're discussing? The answer is that people hate to be wrong. Why? Is it pride? Is it a sense of possession of knowledge you have? What goes through your mind when someone disagrees with you? Honestly, I have gotten defensive when I have had discussions with people because I know I'm 'right'. Does that mean the other person is 'wrong'? No. It means the other person has a very different perspective on the subject discussed. If one were to sit down, calmly and rationally, and discuss whatever issues there are, one would hope the discussion would not get too out of hand and the debate leads to yelling and screaming and name calling. Right? Well, the way that people handle discussions is basically twofold. One, they will calmly discuss and debate or, two, vehemently 'out shout' the other person and end the discussion in some way.
